Station 1 was located above the Hamilton Paper Company and the springs -- and below the upstream industry -- at the bend in the river approximately halfway between Spring Mill and Miquon. The station limits and landmarks are shown in Figure 1. Within the station both banks were fairly steep and lined with trees. Near the shore line of both banks rocks were numerous and interspersed with mud, sand, and debris. The deepest water in the station was near the right (facing downstream) bank.
