This station was characterized by having an upper pool area, a riffle area, and a lower pool area below the riffle. Only that portion (about 1/2) of the pool area adjacent to the riffle was collected in each case. Station 1 was located on the East Branch of Brandywine Creek at the first bridge upstream from the confluence with Marsh Creek. The area under consideration extended upstream from the bridge for about 500 feet, and the stream bed was composed of rock, rubble, and sand. Some mud was present in the shallow water along the edges, and also in the pool areas. The stream was about 25 feet wide, and varied in depth from 2 feet in the pool areas to about 6 inches in the riffles. (1964 report.)
