Station 4 was located approximately four river miles downstream from the lock and dam at Tolar Landing, Bladen County, North Carolina. Both sides were lined with steep clay banks, shaded by ash, sycamore, and willow trees. Submerged logs and trash piles were present. There was a series of five ancient pilings just above the upper left end of the station and an area of exposed and tangled tree roots just below this. The bank was not as steep at the lower left end of the station where some ground water seepage was present. The substrate was hardpacked sand with patches of silt and debris near the banks. (1969-1970 report.)
