state: South Carolina (SC)
This station was set on the Congaree River, 3 1/4 river miles downstream from the juncture of Lexington, Calhoun and Richland Counties, South Carolina. The right bank was in Calhoun County and the left bank was in Richland County. The river channel ran along the left bank which was steep with trees at the crest. There were a number of fallen trees in the water; the artificial substrates were attached to one near mid station. The right bank contained part of a large sand bar which was out of water much of the time. Below this was a backwater lined with trees and containing several fallen trees. The bottom of this backwater was covered with silt, as was the peninsula which formed one side of it. The river was about 150 yards wide and the station was about 200 yards long.
