Holston River, Hawkins Co, TN, US
      NEON domain: not applicable
   state: Tennessee (TN)
Location: In Hawkins County, Tennessee, southeast of Churchill, in the area known as Smith Bend. Description: The river was about 300 feet wide with slow to moderate current and a depth of four to five feet. Laurel Creek entered the river on the left bank at the lower end of the station. Just below the creek was a fallen sycamore tree and offshore barely submerged rocks extended a short distance upstream. Large beds of Potamogeton grew among the heavy boulders of the river bed. A mud and sand beach extended 25 to 30 feet back into the underbrush. The right bank was tree-lined with fields behind. A channel ran close to shore here to a depth of five feet. A small island with a few trees was located near the upper end of the station. (1965 report.)
