| The upstream limit of this station was just below the mouth of Contrary Creek and about a half mile from the lower limit of Station 1. It extended downstream for about 150 feet. The steep clay and sand banks were overhung by deciduous trees on the left bank and by pines and deciduous trees on the right. Because of the exceedingly low rate of flow there were considerable slack water and many pools here. The bottom was primarily a muddy sand underlaid by a reddish-gray sludge. An orange colloidal floc was of common occurrence in still and slack water. The stream presented a very barren appearance in great contrast to Station 1. (1954 report.) |
