| This station was set on the Cooper River in Berkeley County, South Carolina, below Hagan Island. A line running west from Woodland Landing to the Cypress Gardens would pass just upstream of the station. The river was approximately 165 yards wide and the station approximately 200 yards long. On the right bank a narrow clay-sand shelf sloped off into the water. A 3 foot bank lay behind the shelf and a pine forest stood along the edge of the water. A thick bed of rooted aquatics grew along almost all of the station. A marsh area was present at each end of the station and scattered along the 3 foot bank were threee small sandy beaches with emergent vegetation and submerged fallen trees. The left bank consisted of marsh having a thick bed of rooted aquatics along the shore, together with a shelf of soft mud and vegetative debris with some clay lumps mixed in. One cove was present near the upper end of the station. (1974 report.) |
