| The last station on the Ottawa River was in Putnam County about three miles northwest of Kalida and just west of Route 114. It was about 300 feet downstream from the bridge and consisted of pool and slack-water areas and riffles. The characteristics of the shore line and bottom were very similar to those at Station 1, but the flow of water was greater. The pool and slackwater areas ranged in depth from two to three feet and the riffles had eight to ten inches of water. There was a slight odor of oil in the water, a very noticeable odor and color of oil in the mud. The thin top layer of silt on the stream bottom seemed to be mostly free of oil. (1956 & 1957 reports.) The 1960 report says: The pool and slack-water areas ranged in depth from one to three feet and the riffles had six to ten inches of water. (1960 report.) |
